(Council Bluffs) The Pottawattamie County Board of Supervisors approved the hiring of Parlay Consulting Firm’s proposal for the County’s Opioid Plan. Communities across the U.S. have been significantly affected by the opioid epidemic. Four of the nation’s largest corporations agreed to pay around $26 billion to a landslide of lawsuits linked to claims their business practices helped spark the deadly opioid crisis.
Pottawattamie County’s share of the settlement is 3.2 million dollars over 15 years. The County has already received $710,000.
Matt Wyant, Director of Planning and Development, appeared in front of the Supervisor on Tuesday morning, asking them to sign a contract with Parlay Consulting to help develop a plan that would include the study of current conditions in the county and recommendations of the best use of the funds to make the most impact for the residents of Pottawattamie County affected by Opioid use.
Wyant says the study would coincide with Public Health and how they do the community health improvement plan every three years.
The Supervisors will pay Parlay around $126,000 to provide two phases, research and development.
The contract runs through December 31, 2024.
