(Avoca, IA) – Football is just under two weeks away, and AHSTW could not be more ready to throw on the shoulder pads and rush back out onto the field. After an impressive season last year, the Vikings are looking to do the same. Coach Grant Harris has continued to have his players put into successful positions, something that has made the Vikings more than successful in the past and now present.
Speaking of leaders, Nick Denning was a very impactful player last season for the Vikings. In receiving yards, Denning had the third-highest on the team with 266 on 21 receptions and seven touchdowns. He also provided a team-high in solo tackles with 104 and averaged 12 tackles per game. Seth Pope is another player that coach Harris is looking towards seeing in a leadership role this season, as he had 23 tackles and was a big impact on the defensive game for the Vikings. Kayden Baxter played in a defensive role last season as he had 60 solo tackles and three for loss. Coach Harris is looking to these three players to set the bar on the leadership side for AHSTW this season.
With under two weeks left until the first kickoff of the regular season, AHSTW will be taking on Tri-Center just a few minutes down the road on August 25th at 7:00 pm. It has been quite some time since the Vikings last took on the Trojans, but they are prepared to take the field against an opponent that they know is aggressive and ready to play.
AHSTW went 10-1 last year and as they have lost a few seniors, they are looking to continue their success going forward in the 2023 season.
