(Ames, IA) – Iowa State has an offensive and defensive player on the 2023 Outland Trophy Watch List. This announcement comes from the Football Writers Association of America in which the trophy is awarded to the top lineman on offense or on defense.
Jarrod Hufford from Neward, Ohio earned a spot on the Watch List as he started in 20 consecutive games protecting the pocket on the offensive line for Iowa State. He started off last season playing at the left guard position while then moving to the left tackle position to end the season for the last two games. He also earned a spot on Phil Steele’s Preseason All-Big XII First Team.
T.J. Tampa from St. Petersburg, Florida earned a spot on the Watch List on the defensive side as he started all 12 contests for the Cyclones with 40 tackles, five of which were for loss. He made big plays last season, including one where he forced a fumble at the goal line against Iowa as it was recovered by teammate Kendell Jackson to eventually beat the Hawkeyes 10-7. He also earned an All-Big XII Award and is ranked as the highest-graded returning cornerback in the Big XII Conference.
