(Des Moines) Iowa’s new abortion ban is on hold for the time being. A Polk County judge Monday temporarily blocked the new law, which essentially bans all abortions after six weeks of pregnancy. The judge’s ruling will stay in effect as the courts deal with a lawsuit filed by abortion providers and the American Civil Liberties Union over the law. Those groups have said the new ban is unconstitutional. Governor Reynolds signed the new ban into law last Friday. She says Monday’s ruling thwarts the will of the people and says she will fight the state Supreme Court over the matter if she must.
