(Atlantic) The Atlantic Fire Department was called to a residential fire at 7:02 p.m. on Wednesday at 213 W. 14th Street in Atlantic.
When they arrived on the scene, Atlantic Fire Chief Tom Cappel said heavy black smoke was coming from underneath the shingles and roof vents. Cappel says, once inside the house, “We found the fire in between the kitchen area and the basement.”
He says the cause of the fire is electrical, and no one was at home at the time. There were no injuries to anyone at the scene. The smoke from the fire did claim the life of a family pet.
Chief Cappel thanks Cass County EMS, Cass County Emergency Management, Atlantic Police Department, and everyone else doing rehab for the firefighters at the scene.
