(Iowa City) Former Atlantic track star Gratt Reed is among nine University of Iowa Track and Field athletes qualified to compete at the Toyota USATF Outdoor Senior Championships at Hayward Field in Eugene, Oregon, on July 6-9. Reed qualified in the 110 Meter Hurdles with a time of 13.50.
Gratt Reed is coming off an outstanding 2023 Track season. The junior ran season bests in the 60 meters at Hawkeye Invite (6.82) and Larry Wieczorek Invite (6.82), 60-meter hurdles at B1G Championships (7.73), and 200 meters at New Mexico Collegiate Classic (20.87). The 200-meter time ranks fifth all-time at Iowa . He placed third in 200 meters (20.95) and seventh in 60-meter hurdles (7.84) at the B1G Championships.
Reed’s outdoor season was even more impressive. The two-time second-team All-American ran the third leg on a school record-setting 400-meter relay (38.64) and placed 10th in 100-meter hurdles (13.55) at the NCAA Championships. Additionally, Gratt ran the third leg on the 400-meter relay that set a then-school record and placed second at Texas Relays (38.70), placed fourth in 110-meter hurdles at the Texas Relays with a time of (13.50), running a wind-aided team-leading and collegiate-best 13.36 in prelims. The 13.50 time ranks fifth all-time at Iowa. Reed also ran the third leg on a 400-meter relay, placed fifth in 39.19, and placed ninth in 110-meter hurdles (13.69) at the NCAA West Preliminary. The 400-meter relay time ranks fifth all-time at Iowa. He also placed ninth in the 200 meters with a collegiate-best 20.54 at the Tom Jones Memorial Invite, ranking fifth all-time at Iowa.
Reed excelled on the track and in the classroom earning Academic All-Big Ten.
