(Audubon) Audubon wins over Tri-Center in Class 1A Regional 3 with a final score of 7-3. Tri-Center was jumping off the mark in their start in the first inning, earning a run off of the single by Hannah Wulff to jump off to an early lead that would not last for long. Audubon came back earning three runs as Mattie Nielsen, Jordan Porsch, and Alexis Obermeier all scored in the first to bring the Wheelers to a 3-1 lead over the Trojans.
Audubon continued the string of runs in the second inning earning three additional runs which included both Nielsen and Porsch crossing the plate due to the hitting power of Kalie Irimeier who also helped put a run on the board earning a 6-1 lead over Tri-Center. Adding on in the fourth inning for the Wheelers was once again Irimeier who reached home on a double and successful base stealing towards third as Addie Hocker knocked her in home to earn the final run for the Wheelers in the game.
Tri-Center may have been down, but they did not stop putting up a fight as they put on two runs in the sixth inning behind Natalie Ausdemore and Addi Redinbaugh who scored on a Harris hit toward third on an overthrow play. The Trojans just came back too little too late and lost in the contest 7-3.
Audubon was led by pitcher Alexis Obermeier who struck out twelve in the game and only allowed three runs to score in the competition. Obermeier also went 1-3 on the night earning a single on her one hit.
Kali Irimeier knew how to get things done both on the field and in the batter’s box, going 2-4 on the night with two doubles scoring both times that she reached second base. Irimeier struggled in the beginning but got right back on her feet in the second inning.
On the field, Irimeier played first base perfectly on the night and was a key point on the defensive side for the Wheelers.
Audubon will drive on to the next round to play 20-3 Exira-EHK who is rated #15 in the state.
