(Red Oak) The Red Oak FD was dispatched at 6:22 a.m. today to the main rail track just south of the City Treatment Plant for a reported Train locomotive that was on fire.
Red Oak Fire Chief John Bruce said smoke and fire were observed coming from the train’s AC Traction System compartment upon arrival. This component is the high voltage system on the train, so a fire extinguishing agent has to put out the blaze.
During the train crews stopping the train, a secondary fire was sparked approximately 100 yards down along the tracks. That fire was quickly extinguished as well.
The assisting agencies were the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office, Montgomery County Communication Center, Red Oak Police Department, and the BNSF Crews.
Chief Bruce says arrangements were underway to get BNSF maintenance on the scene and the train back into service.
