Trailer Tire Strikes Vehicle in Council Bluffs; Driver Suffers Minor Injuries

By Mandy Billings Jun 19, 2023 | 2:22 PM

(Council Bluffs) One person suffered minor injuries after a tire struck a vehicle in Council Bluffs this morning.

The Council Bluffs Police Department says the incident happened at 9:46 a.m. at the 2.2 mile marker of the I-80 westbound express lane. An unknown eastbound semi lost a trailer tire, which bounced into the westbound express lanes, striking a Honda CRV. The westbound express lanes were shut down, with traffic being diverted to the local lanes. The roadway was reopened at 10:35 a.m. The driver of the Honda suffered minor injuries.

The Iowa Department of Transportation and Iowa State Patrol assisted the Council Bluffs Police Department.

Anyone with information on the semi involved is encouraged to contact the Council Bluffs Traffic Unit at (712) 328-4948.
