(Cass Co) The Cass County Board of Supervisors this morning approved a change in zoning classification from General Agricultural District to Business District for Schmidt & Schmidt Properties LLC. The approval followed a public hearing.
Jon Schmidt with Schmidt Family Funeral Homes said they bought part of a hay field from Jo Ann and Lee Poeppe along the edge of town in Anita to build a funeral chapel.
Schmidt said they are going to be petitioning to be annexed into the City of Anita and draw from the City utilities. He said they hope to break ground and have things started by September and then open by Spring.
The Supervisors also held a public hearing on the proposed amendment of the FY2023 Budget to account for the National Opioid Settlement funds. There were no public comments for or against and the board approved the amendment.
The Supervisors then approved the annual Wellness Coordinator agreement between Cass County Agricultural Extension District, Cass Health, Nishna Valley Family YMCA and Cass County from July 1, 2023 to July 1, 2025. The board voted 4 to 1 with Bernard Pettinger voting Nay.
Cass County Extension Director Kate Olson said this is basically the same agreement they have signed several years in a row.
Olson noted that they are still in the process of hiring a new Wellness Coordinator.
Cass County’s contribution will be $7,000 from LOST funds and $25,000 from ARPA funds in FY24. In FY25, Cass County will contribute $8,000 from LOST funds and $35,000 in ARPA funds.
