(Audubon) The Audubon County Board of Supervisors covered a full slate of items on Tuesday’s agenda. One of the topics discussed was how to spend the Opioid Settlement funds allocated to states nationwide.
Supervisor Chairman Doug Sorensen says a committee is being formed to decide how to spend the funds allocated to Audubon County. “So far, Audubon County has received $17,000.00 from the Opioid settlement,” said Sorensen. “According to the website, there is an indication we may receive up to $93,000.00 over a period of 15 to 18 years, and we have to decide how we plan to use those settlement funds.”
Seventy percent of the money must be earmarked for future opioid-related expenses, including expanding access to treatment and buying the overdose reversal medication naloxone. Additionally, 15 percent of the funds can be used for government administrative expenses to reimburse past opioid-related payments.
