(Harlan) The Harlan School District Iowa Jobs for America’s graduates is growing from four students to 50 for the 2023-2024 school. IJAG focuses on teaching students skills not normally taught in conventional core classes.
Harlan Schools Superintendent Jenny Barnett credits Lori Pilichai for the program’s growth.
Barnett says the program ties in businesses and the community with the school. The program targets at-risk students to help them find a career path they are interested in.
Lori Piliachia follows the students one year after graduation and checks in monthly, ensuring everything is ok and tying them in with resources if needed.
This week, the Harlan School Board approved a memorandum of understanding with IJAG.
