(Lewis) Elementary students in Cass County recently participated in outdoor learning opportunities at Cold Springs Park.
The lake in Lewis was the sight for a number stations on Thursday. Fisheries Biologist Bryan Hayes explains, “It’s a good event for the schools and the kids. We enjoy getting them outdoors and letting them experience things like fishing. There’s talk about hunting. There’s a fur case where they can look at those animals and learn about them. Our environmental services people are here talking about soil erosion and stream processes.”
Many young anglers got to experience fishing for the first time. They did so with good success. “We want the kids to get out and fish. We talk to them about making fishing a part of a healthy, active lifestyle. Fishing is an opportunity to get them out in the environment and it’s a lifelong activity.”
Hayes says conditions are right for a big weekend of spring fishing.
