(Harlan) Last week, the Harlan City Council voted to enter a 28E agreement with the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office.
Harlan Mayor Jay Christensen stated the issue the city is facing is hiring and retaining a Police Force. He said the city is faced with two options: stay the course or approve the agreement.
According to the agenda, the Shelby County Board of Supervisors will consider entering into the same agreement on Tuesday. Under the plan, the Sheriff’s Officers would expand from 11 to 17 deputies. The current Police Officers would need to apply for the positions.
The meeting starts at 9:00 a.m. in the Board of Supervisors Boardroom at the Courthouse.
The Supervisors will also hold a public hearing on the Maximum Tax Levy and set a resolution for the 2023-2024 Fiscal Year Budget.
