(Sidney) The Fremont County Sheriff’s Office arrested a Spirit Lake man early this week in connection with a stolen vehicle from Dickinson County.
On Monday, deputies received a report of a possible stolen 2015 Chrysler 200 near a truck stop at the intersection of Highway 2 and Interstate 29. Officers arrested the driver 20-year-old Kendel Cole Schmidt of Spirit Lake, for 1st – Degree Theft. Deputies transported Schmidt to the Fremont County Jail and held him on a $10,000 cash bond. Schmidt also had a warrant for his arrest in Dickinson County.
Fremont County Authorities slapped additional charges on Schmidt for assaulting a correctional officer and causing minor injuries. He allegedly tore the correctional officer’s uniform and attempted to steal items from the officer to escape.
Schmidt faces additional charges of 5th-Degree Criminal Mischief, Assault on persons in certain occupations, attempted escape, and 2nd-degree robbery.
He is held on an additional $17,300 cash bond.
