(Des Moines) The Iowa House this past week passed House File 614, the out-of-state teacher licensure bill.
Iowa House Representative Tom Moore, of Griswold, introduced this bill to allow a student who has completed a practitioner prep program in another state to apply and receive licensure in Iowa and removes the requirement that there is a license issued from the other state.
Tom Moore said, “Iowa will benefit on many different fronts in hiring qualified teachers and filling much needed open teaching positions. This gives Iowa schools a new option and out of state and country prospective teachers a licensure option they haven’t had.”
For an out of country applicant, they can provide transcripts indicating they’ve completed an educator prep program to be eligible to receive licensure. Tom Moore said he also received a letter from the office of the Secretary of Defense that recognized Iowa as making great strides towards improving the quality of life of their military families.
