(Des Moines) Iowa’s State Climatologist Justin Glisan says the La Nina weather pattern out in the Pacific continues to drag on. Glisan says historically, that is quite unusual.

Audio PlayerAdditionally, Glisan says La Nina in winter usually brings above-average precipitation in the Ohio Valley and the Great Lakes, another bullseye in the Pacific west, drier conditions across the southern states, colder temperatures across the Midwest, and warmer temperatures in the southern states.
Audio PlayerGlisan says history shows during that transition into late spring is near normal to wetter than average conditions. He says we will have to see how wintertime shakes out, but there is a suggestion in the climate modeling that we will experience a large-scale shift in the climate weather pattern.
