(Undated) The Ottumwa School District is taking several steps after a student complained about extreme racial harassment. A U.S. Department of Education investigation found a Black middle school student faced pervasive racial harassment, including slurs and derogatory jokes. The district has agreed to reimburse the student’s parent for therapy expenses, publish an anti-harassment statement, revise district policies, train staff, and put age-appropriate programs in place for students addressing harassment.
