(Atlantic) Iowa High School Wrestling Teams’ official first day of practice starts today. Ten seniors and around 15 underclassmen report this season to Atlantic Head Coach Tim Duff and his staff.
Coach Duff starts his 18th year as the head coach. Over the past 17-seasons under his direction, the Trojan wrestling program has produced impressive numbers, including 73 state qualifiers, 37 state medalists, three individual state champions, five dual state appearances, and a six-place finish in the Class 2A State Dual Tournament one year ago. The Trojans have won the Hawkeye Conference Dual Title, or Conference Tournament Championship, five out of the last six years.
Additionally, the Atlantic Coaching Staff have received the State Coaching Staff of the year award. Duff gives credit to the athletes stating all the accolades are by-products of the work the wrestlers put in the room each day.
Over the past many years, the program has been known as Atlantic/CAM, with both schools contributing many talented wrestlers. The two schools have their own programs now. So, what are the expectations for this year’s Atlantic squad?
Coach says, ultimately, the success of his teams comes down to, ask me ten years from now.
The meet-the-team night is on November 28, and the first competition is a double dual at Adel with ADM and Earlham on December 1.
