(Audubon) After a very tight first set, Audubon opened up some breathing room and was able to eliminate Nodaway Valley 3-0 on Monday. The Wheelers began postseason play with a 25-22, 25-16, 25-18 triumph over the Wolverines.
Mattie Nielsen had 14 kills and Harlow Miller posted 11. The Wheelers led most of the opening set, but Nodaway Valley hung around and even took a brief, late lead. There were ten ties and a few lead changes, but Audubon got a momentum swing at the end to grab the 1-0 advantage.
The second set saw Audubon quickly build a double digit cushion and they led by a healthy margin for most of the 3rd before Nodaway Valley’s 4-0 stretch in the late going snugged up the final margin.
Addie Hocker distributed 26 assists and served three aces. Nielsen, Miller, and Kali Irlmeier were all in on three blocks each. Nielsen led the team in digs with 8.
15-16 Audubon will play at 7th rated Ankeny Christian on Wednesday. The Eagles are 33-3.
