(Anita) CAM is one of the hottest teams in 8-Player football. The Cougars will try to push their win streak to four games when they host Boyer Valley on Friday night.
CAM’s consecutive victories over Audubon, Exira-EHK, and Coon Rapids-Bayard have seen the Cougars average 56.6 points per game while allowing 13.3 Coach Barry Bower says the group has shown great effort on defense and is starting to better understand their offensive schemes. “We are multi-dimensional with the run game and the pass game right now.” Bower says, “For our kids to get on this roll is really nice to see. We had some bumps in the road, but if we can stop turning the ball over and stop making mental mistakes then we can compete.”
CAM’s only hiccups on the season are a 29-22 home loss to district champion West Harrison and a 40-38 non-district setback at East Mills. “We just told them if we can stop beating ourselves we can do some good things. I think in the film sessions those two weeks they really saw that.”
CAM is one of just 13 schools in 8-Player that has at least 1,000 yards rushing and 1,000 yards passing. Coach Bower gives praise to the offensive line of Gavyn Jessen, Ty Eblen, and Corbin Peach. “I think our interior front has been absolutely wonderful over the last couple of weeks. They’ve really started to find their own identity and are pushing people around.” Bower says, “They understand they don’t get all the notoriety, but they ahve fun doing it.”
CAM will be the #2 seed from 8-Player, District 10 regardless of how they fare on Friday. We’ll have the broadcast between 5-2 CAM and 2-5 Boyer Valley on 96.5 FM KSOM with our live video stream available HERE
