(Audubon) Most football teams in the state are preparing for their first football game of the season on Friday, but for Audubon it’ll be game two when they matchup with SE Warren.
The Wheelers got a jump start on the season with a loss to Winfield-Mount Union last Saturday. As you would expect, they learned a lot about themselves. “There’s no doubt about it. That was probably our most intensive film session we’ve ever had, just with the amount of notes and the amount of stuff in there. Hopefully it’s not too much. You worry that you’re going to overload the kids and they are going to start thinking too much. I think we’ll be alright. We made a lot of the same mistakes. Our DB’s not setting the edge, our DB’s and Linebackers not taking great angles, our D-Line getting too high. Some of those things are an every year early in the season kind of thing. I’m just excited because we were able to get some experience and some of these kids it’s their first real varsity experience.”
Coach Sean Birks they were fortunate to get that early experience and their learning curve has been accelerated. This week they’ll face a very big and quality SE Warren squad. “The challenge is there to not get pushed around in the box. They’ll be lining up a 6-8 250 pound kid snapping the ball. Their tight ends and another guard are 240-ish. They’ve got some real nice looking. Everybody they put on the field is 180 plus basically on offense and they want to be physical with it.”
Friday’s game will be played in Audubon, kicking off at 7:00.
