(Cass Co) The Cass County Board of Supervisors this morning held another discussion on the possible sale of county owned farmland.
The farmland, which includes row crop and pasture ground, is adjacent to the old Willow Heights building southwest of Atlantic.
Supervisor Steve Green said in looking at the CSR scores and other things, a pretty good portion of that land is above average.
Green said they would definitely come out ahead if they consider having to bond for economic development and having to pay interest on millions of dollars compared to having that money and being able to invest it without interest on behalf of the tax payer and the growth of Cass County.
Supervisor Mark O’Brien said he feels the county is not in the business to own farm ground and rent it out.
Supervisor John Hartkopf explained the original intent of this farm many, many years ago…
Supervisor Green said they also have to keep in mind that there have been expenses that go along with owning that farm ground; for instance, not long ago they have had to put in a new cattle watering system.
The Board is notifying the current tenants that they may take action that will affect their ability to rent the land in the future.
