(Atlantic) Atlantic school officials have changed the district’s cell phone policy. Atlantic students and staff are asked to put away their cell phones during class time this school year.
Atlantic High School Principal Heather McKay says the main priority of educators is teaching the students. “That includes adults and teachers.” “As we looked at ways to improve student engagement and provide the best opportunities for them to learn, the faculty and staff came to an agreement cell phones are banned during class time,” said McKay.
“The classroom” is a scheduled time with a teacher or educator. The students do have some wiggle room. For instance, McKay says the students can use their devices before and after school, between classes, and during lunch. “We are looking forward to giving our students a mental break from this device that has become a part of one of their appendages.”
Additionally, air buds are banned from the classroom.
