(Guthrie Center) ACGC kicks off the 2022 football season on Saturday night against Greene County.
The Chargers lose their top three rushers from last season, but coming back are some of the big bodies that helped pave the way. “Payton Jacobe on the line for us. He was an all-district player. He’s 6’2″ 270 and he’s going to be playing both ways for us. Jake Thomas started against Greene County last year when we had some ineligibility issues. Jake stepped up in some big ways. He’ll be playing center for us and he’s going to do a great job. He’s a really good energy guy. Mike Fuller is back and he was an all-district defensive lineman last year. Then we have some other pieces that are coming back.”
Brock Littler’s experience at quarterback will be a big plus. “When you have a quarterback that’s able to read and run the true triple in the veer series and to be able to not block guys on the line and let our offensive line get to linebackers is really key for us. It’s been a lot of assignment and disciplinary football for us. We talk about the things we can control and worry about those things.”
New starters in the backfield will be Seth Reno, Austin Kunkle, and Ben Marsh.
They’ll be facing a fairly inexperience Greene County squad. “You can’t get caught up in that. From what I’ve heard they have only four seniors last year. That’s always tough, but they might have a really good junior class.”
Next Saturday’s season opener will be played in Ogden against Greene County.
