(Lewis) Kelly Cunningham, Managing Partner of Milk Unlimited, a dairy operation Northeast of Lewis, began chopping corn silage on August 9. Cunningham says the hot and dry weather pattern this summer affected the yield. Despite the results, Kelly remains optimistic.
Cunningham says some of the corn is yielding about half what he usually produces, and some is yielding close to the past growing seasons.
Cunningham says the goal every year is 30,000 tons.
The operation milks 3,400 cows, milked three times a day, and employs 31-people.
The milk produced here goes to a plant in Sandborn, Iowa, and is made into cheese.
