(Elk Horn) Teachers from the IKM-Manning and Exira-EHK School Districts will get back to work next week with an opportunity to learn more about standard based grading.
Author and UNI Professor Matt Townsley will be the featured presenter on August 16th. “He speaks about making grades matter. We’ve been doing some different work in both districts on making grades matter, just making sure students understand what it means instead of just the A, B, C, D, and F. It’s about what knowledge you have. He’s done a good job.”
Shared Superintendent Trevor Miller is excited to welcome Townsley to the two districts. “Teachers want to hear from the outside what it really looks like instead of from administrators. He’ll be good. He’s very energetic. I think it will be a positive way to start off the school year. It’s going to be a very interactive format.”
Townsley is an assistant professor of educational leadership. He has authored books entitled Making Grades Matter: Standards-Based Grading in a Secondary PLC at Work and Using Grading to Support Student Learning.
