(Red Oak) Amber Jennings, Community Liaison for the Red Oak Police Department, says around 700 people turned out at Fountain Square Park for the annual Red Oak Police Department “National Night Out.” National Night out is a community-police-awareness event held throughout communities across the United States.
“Several first-responders participated in the evening activities with their fire trucks and rescue,” said Jennings. “Several local businesses were on hand with games, handouts, and food vendors throughout the park. Everything was free, and the public came down to socialize with the first responders and businesses. It was a great turnout, it was hot, but I think everything went well.”
Jennings says about 95 first responders and businesses participated in the evening activities. “The goal is for the Police, first responders, and the public to form a good working relationship,” said Jennings. “We don’t want people to be scared, and we want people to come to them if they need help.”
Jennings says Secret Services came in from Omaha, agencies provided handouts, including the Montgomery County Hospital going over ATV Safety, and numerous Community service agencies offered free food.
