(Atlantic) Twelve girls and seven boys are vying for the title of Fair Queen and King at the Cass County Fairgrounds this evening.
Haley Schmidt, Cass County Fair King, and Queen Contest Superintendent, said the process started in July. On July 11, the candidates appeared at the Cass County Community Center for the preliminary judging session. The candidates filled out an application and turned it into the extension office.
“This included individual and group interviews, and the candidates were judged on their appearance, personality, leadership, citizenship, and communication skills,” said Schmidt. “They were able to talk to our judges and treated with a wonderful meal catered by the Downtowner.”
This evening’s contest starts at 7:00 p.m. with the Little Miss and Little Mr. Contest. The King and Queen contestants will make their appearance at around 7:30 p.m. The candidates will introduce themselves; talk with the MC, followed by a brief intermission featuring banner club, senior recognition, and Hall of Fame. During that time, the Judges will head backstage and select a King, Queen, Prince, Princess, Mr. Congeniality, and Miss Congeniality.
The King candidates are Tristan Becker, Dylan Comes, Brett Dreager, Collin Evans, Logan Evans, Nolan Hensley, and Bryan York.
The Queen candidates are: Elizabeth Anderson, Rachel Becker, Sydney Becker, Mallory Behnken, Natalie Behnken, Cece Hensley, Paige Jensen, Rio Johnson, Payton LaPorte, Emma Mundorf, Keira Olson, and Tristan Swain.
The 2022 Fair Queen will represent Cass County at the Iowa State Fair.
