(Atlantic) Atlantic Schools Superintendent Steve Barber told the Board of Education that the administration continues to pursue qualified candidates to serve the students actively.
Barber is recommending Mrs. Fell, a retired Atlantic teacher, to serve one year in the kindergarten classroom and Ms. Miller to fill the vacant third-grade position. The district is searching for a Title I instructor at Schuler Elementary; if this doesn’t pan out, they will use the Washington Elementary Title teachers to work with those Title I students. Barber says Washington does have some student teachers this year that could be potential candidates for this opening once they become licensed.
Regarding the English Language Arts, Barber is looking to hire a long-term substitute highly qualified for the first semester while actively finding a replacement. Atlantic High School Principal Mrs. McKay has been working with colleges and has identified some possible replacements for students who are graduating in the semester.
Barber says they’re hoping to find another qualified candidate to fill the English Language Arts position; additionally, Mr. Aden and Mrs. McKay are exploring ways with the current staff to meet the demands at the high school.
Barber says the district is working on hiring a math teacher while looking at other potential individuals with a background to fill in during the search.
The district still needs an ESL teacher, and High School/Middle School Specialist Mrs. Dickerson will meet the district’s legal obligations and communicate with colleges that offer a Master’s Level Librarian program.
The School Board approved the following resignations: Matt Smith, Head Boys’ Soccer Coach; Joe Brummer, Head Varsity Baseball Coach; and Julie Hansen, Washington Elementary Paraeducator.
The School Board approved contracts for Chase Roller, Assistant High School Wrestling Coach, Michaelin Juhl, Volunteer Cheerleading Coach; Adam Roberts, Volunteer Archery Coach; Laurie Fell, Washington Grade Level Teacher; and Mikade Thompson, High School Night Custodian.
