(Corning) ACGC scored five runs in the first inning and cruised to 12-5 win at SW Valley in a non-conference softball game on Wednesday.
The Chargers posted 15 hits in the victory, led by Jenna Rowley’s 4/4 night. After starting the season at 0-11, coach Eric Van Meter’s group has won three games over the past five days.
Sophie Dorsey, Reagan Carney, Mersadez Richter, Jenna Rowley, and Hayden Coffman all singled in the big 1st inning. Richter and Coffman drove in one run apiece.
The Chargers threatened in the 2nd with a double from Carney, but they ran into an out at home plate and went scoreless in the inning. The visitors cranked things back up in the 3rd with RBI hits from Jayla Hoover, Hayden Coffman, and Sophie Dorsey. Jenna Rowley also singled in the three run frame.
Down 8-0, SW Valley got on the board in the bottom of the 3rd. Mackenzie Richards and Ryanne Mullen started things off with back-to-back hits. Camryn Johnston posted an RBI groundout and Madeline McCoy bunted in another run.
ACGC kept the offense rolling with a run in the 4th and three in the 5th. Rowley’s four hit night also included a stolen base, two runs scored, and one RBI. Others with multiple hits were Sophie Dorsey, Reagan Carney, Mersadez Richter, and Hayden Coffman. Posting one hit each were Jayla Hoover, Pressley Buttler and Audrey Franzeen.
SW Valley trailed 12-2 in the bottom of the 5th and got a run across to keep the game alive. Ryanne Mullen drew a one out walk and Camryn Johnston singled. An Evy Marlin groundout scored Mullen to make it 12-3. Two more runs came for the home team in the bottom of the 7th. Kenzie Maeder walked to start the inning and Mackenzie Richards was hit by a pitch. Marlin delivered a two run double with two outs.
Emerson Van Meter pitched the win. She allowed five hits and three walks in seven innings with four strikeouts. Ryanne Mullen and Haidyn Top divided the pitching duties for SW Valley.
ACGC improves to 3-15 heading into a doubleheader on Thursday at Van Meter. 11-11 SW Valley will travel to Bedford Thursday night.
