(Griswold) District #21 Representative Tom Moore says the drafting of a new bottle bill is long overdue. The Griswold Republican says the old bill is 44-years old. This year’s positive change is on the verge of making can and bottle redemption profitable, convenient, and impactful to the environment.
The new bill increases enforcement by placing it under the Attorney General’s Office and offers distributors a one-cent credit against their taxes for each container they handle. The legislation raises the handling fee for redemption centers from one to three cents. It allows retailers with three exemptions to opt-out. Moore says this gives the legislature an accounting of unredeemed containers and considerable legislative oversight.
