(Creston) The Atlantic girl’s track team posted several impressive performances and finished second as a team on Monday night at Creston.
Atlantic Head Coach Matt Mullenix says the Trojans took advantage and ran several season-best times. Chloe Mullenix moved up in the standings in the 400-meter hurdles with a winning time of 1:08.67, tying her for 13th in the state. The 16 fastest times qualify for this elite event at the Drake Relays. Mullinex also anchored the 800-meter Sprint Medley Relay to a second-place finish with a 400-meter in 62.30.
Ava Rush ran a season-best time, 2:24.09, and ran away from the field in the 800 meters at 2:24.09. Claire Pellett finished 2nd in a time of 2:39.07. Mariah Huffman won the 400 meters in 1:05.62, and Addie DeArment finished second in the 3000 meters with a time of 12:57.46.
The 4×800 Meter Relay team of Claire Wiederstein, Mariah Hadley, Mariah Huffman, and Hailey Huffman finished first at 11:30.01, and the Distance Medley team of Callee Pellett, Hailey Huffman, Ava Rush, and Claire Pellett, outdistanced the field in a time of 4:36.44.
The 4×400 relay team capped off the night for the Trojans with a second-place finish in 4:31.54. Carrying the baton for the Trojans were Nicole Middents, Jada Jensen, Aubrey Guyer, and Mariah Huffman.
Abbi Richter finished third in the discus with a throw of 94-04.
Wayne-Corydon won the team title with 167-points, Atlantic finished second with 148-points, Clarke third, 101, Martinsdale, St. Mary’s, fourth, 85, Creston, fifth, 59, Stanton, sixth, 57, Southwest Valley, seventh, 56, and Council Bluffs, Thomas Jefferson, eighth with 46-points.
