(Guthrie Center) The ACGC boys track squad is coming off of a team title at Panorama on Tuesday.
The Chargers were scheduled to run at Van Meter on Thursday, but the meet has been called off. Coach Cody Matthewson is glad they were able to get Tuesday’s competition in because it was their first outdoor meet at full strength. “That was the first time we’ve been able to put together a more solidified lineup. Our seniors missed a meet. The biggest thing was to see some of our guys come back after being on a bus and being out in DC for a week. We are very happy with where we are right now.”
The program has some star power and with that comes a number of events they may try and qualify for the Drake Relays at the end of April. “Trevin Suhr is trying to potentially qualify in the 800 and mile and he’s running the 800 in the Distance Medley. The weather hasn’t been quite cooperative. The 4X100 has a really good shot.” Matthewson says, “We are hoping to get down to sub-44 by the end of the year. We were running a really good 4X200.”
Matthewson says they could load up the 4X800 at some point plus Austin Kunkle could have a chance to get to Drake in the 100. ACGC’s next meet on the schedule is at Earlham on Tuesday.
