Bert Carr, Jr., 79, of Atlantic, Iowa, died Monday, December 27, 2021, at Atlantic Specialty Care.
Bert Lawrence was born on April 24, 1942, in Atlantic, Iowa, the son of Bert Lawrence and Lulu (Andersen) Carr. He attended school in Atlantic until his help was needed working alongside his dad at the farm. Bert farmed west of Atlantic his entire life, and also stayed busy mowing, custom baling, and really anything he could do to help a fellow farmer; he was a hard worker.
Bert was a baseball fanatic and knew who all the players were. He watched whatever game was on, but he would tell you the St. Louis Cardinals were his team. Bert had a morning routine of having a cup of coffee, reading the newspaper, and watching the Price Is Right, often saying, “I won another car today.” He loved to go for car rides and scope out the garage sales, rarely buying a single thing. Bert had a HUGE sweet tooth and there was never a doubt he had a cookie within arm’s reach. When Bert would ride along for a cookie run, he typically sat contently in the car until one day he saw someone on one of the store’s electric scooters, from then on he was right along with cruising up and down the aisles on a scooter too picking the cookies and whatever else looked good that day.
Bert is survived by a host of cousins and extended family.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Bert and Lulu Carr and sisters and brothers-in-law, Violet (Earl) Inman, Luella (Don) Adams, Virginia (Francis) Nichols, and Louise (Dean) Morgan.
