Robert Anthony “Bob” Drogo, 73, of Atlantic, Iowa formerly of rural Red Oak, Iowa passed away Sunday, October 24, 2021 at his home in Atlantic. Bob Drogo was born on February 3, 1948 in Teaneck, New Jersey, the son of Anthony Joseph Drogo and Miriam Holter Drogo. Bob graduated from Bergenfield High School in 1966. He then went on to attend Kent State University to major in business administration. While in college, he had the talent to play baseball and eventually the opportunity to play in the minor leagues for the Mets. In 1969, a baseball injury put an end to Bob’s playing career and he chose to pursue telecommunications.
Bob met his wife Barbara Wetterlind in 1984, where they were employed for United Telephone Company. Bob and Barb married in 1985 and made their home in Olathe, Kansas. They moved to Iowa in 1989 to be close to Barb’s family.
Bob’s career allowed him opportunities to work in Omaha and West Des Moines. Bob was known by his business colleagues and friends for his calm and organized business manner, hard work and firm handshake. His last professional endeavor was as the General Manager of Griswold Communications. He brought massive positive change to the small town telco prior to his retirement in 2015. Bob received many accolades and honors during his 46-year telecommunications career.
Bob and Barb moved to Atlantic, Iowa, in 2014 to be close to their children and grandchildren. They enjoyed a couple trips to Arizona together prior to Bob’s health declining. Bob enjoyed golfing, fishing, spending time in Bible study, reading, and sharing time with his family and friends. Bob was an Abe Lincoln enthusiast and respected all that he stood for. He also collected owls, until later in life where he felt a deep connection to the simple beauty of soaring eagles.
Most importantly, Bob’s faith was an essential aspect of his life. He was baptized on September 30, 2001. He was a soul on fire for the Lord and his legacy lives on in his faith witness not only to both his children and grandchildren, but to many others that his life touched. He was a faithful servant of Christ until the end. Bob and Barb attended Faith Community Church in Red Oak and were active members of the congregation through worship and leading Bible studies. Bob and Barb faithfully watched church services online when his health did not allow him to attend church in person.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents and father-in-law, Don Wetterlind. Bob is survived by his loving wife Barbara Ann; his children: Matthew Drogo; Ashley (Drogo) Mosier and husband Lucas; and Anthony Drogo and wife Stephanie. The little joys in his life were his grandchildren: Oliver and Adalynn Drogo; Reid and Grace Mosier and Connor Drogo. Bob is also survived by his brother: Rick Drogo and wife Denise; mother-in-law: Pat Wetterlind; brothers-in-law: Doug Wetterlind and wife Patti and Mike Wetterlind and wife Cindy; and sister-in-law: Denise Bergren and husband Tom; along with many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
We are blessed with the great peace that he is soaring on the wings like eagles with our Heavenly Father.
