(Atlantic) The Atlantic City Council is bringing the July 4 fireworks display discussion back to the table again at Wednesday’s City Council meeting.
The Atlantic City Council’s consensus at the September 22 City Council meeting for Atlantic City Administrator John Lund to contact Viking Pyrotechnics, out of Shannon City, to put on a Class B fireworks Show, understanding they were the only one Class B provider in the area.
The Council had initially asked local providers the O’Brien family, (Wild Willies), and Dan Vargason to submit bids for the 2022 display, even though they weren’t licensed to put on a Class B show. At the September 22 meeting, Lund said while the initial plan involved supporting local vendors to run the show, he wasn’t comfortable choosing between the two, plus they weren’t licensed to put on a Class B Show.
In the meantime, Lund says it has come to his attention; Wild Willies is pursuing a Class B license. Lund stated all of the facts should be available anytime the Council makes a decision.
So, on Wednesday, the two vendors, the O’Brien’s and Dan Vargason, will each address the Council. Lund says since no formal vote taken, no contract signed, and with local providers offering an alternative that would make an immediate decision less pressing, he feels it’s fair to allow the Council the opportunity to make a formal decision.
