Irvin Dale Shanno, the son of Donald and Alletha (Haines) Shanno, was born in Council Bluffs, IA, May 23, 1949. Irvin died August 31, 2021, at the University of Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha, NE, at the age of 72 years, 3 months, and 8 days.
Irvin attended school in Oakland, graduating from Oakland High School with the class of 1967. After graduating, he worked as a farm hand for Orville Pierce. On July 19, 1968, Irvin was united in marriage to Shirley Lorraine Matthews in Avoca, IA. Three children were born to this union: Shawn, Teresa, and Becky. They lived in a farmhouse for about a year before moving to their current home. Irvin worked at several jobs before working for Henry Well Company. He was still helping Henry Well Company on a need basis at the time of his death.
Irvin was a jack of all trades and had done all the remodeling on their home. He enjoyed watching football and going fishing. Irvin especially loved going to see his grandchildren’s events.
Irvin preceded in death by his parents and his sister.
He is survived by his wife Shirley of Oakland, IA; his children: Shawn Shanno and wife Jodi of Grimes, IA, Teresa Hoepner and husband Devin of Avoca, IA, and Becky Caskey of Council Bluffs, IA; his grandchildren: Paige, Keegan, Aletha, Derek, Blaire, Ethan; and his other relatives and friends.
A visitation with Irvin’s family will be on Friday, September 3, 2021, from 5-7 PM at the Oakland United Methodist Church. A private family interment will take place at a later date. Rieken Vieth Funeral Home in Oakland is assisting the family.
