Evelyn Yvonne Christensen was born on July 26, 1935 to Jens and Pauline (Nielsen) Ploughman in Omaha, Nebraska. She was baptized and confirmed in 1950 in Audubon, Iowa. Evelyn graduated from Audubon High School in 1954, then moved to Des Moines to work for Bankers Life Insurance Company for two years, until she married Kenneth Christensen on July 7, 1956. To this union one daughter was born Karen. Karen gave them one granddaughter Amanda Kristine. Amanda was the center of Evelyn’s eye. Evelyn always put everyone else first especially Kenneth her husband of 65 years.
Evelyn passed away on August 18, 2021 at Salem Lutheran Home in Elk Horn, Iowa, attaining the age of eighty-six years and twenty-three days. Evelyn was preceded in death by her mother and father, daughter Karen Monahan, brothers Henry, Charles, and James, and sister Gloria.
Evelyn is survived by her husband Kenneth “Casey” Christensen of Harlan, Iowa; granddaughter Amanda and her husband Taylor Pappas of Omaha, Nebraska; sister Delores Byriel of Ames, Iowa; nieces and nephews, and many many very dear friends.
Funeral Services will be Saturday, August 21st at 2:30 PM at the Pauley Jones Funeral Home in Harlan. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service. Burial will be at the Harlan Cemetery. The Pauley Jones Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
