(Atlantic) Construction continues to repair the bank on the southwest section of the Schildberg Recreation Trail along Lake 3.
Bryant Rassmussen, Director, told the Atlantic Parks and Recreation Board Monday night that they will be replacing the trail with concrete instead of asphalt so it will last longer.
In other news, Rasmussen said the National Fitness Campaign contacted him about putting in some outdoor exercise equipment in either Sunnyside Park or Schildberg Recreation Area. The equipment is ADA accessible and there would be QR codes for people to scan with be pre-made workouts that they can follow.
The Parks and Recreation Board members agreed this would be a great addition to the parks.
Rasmussen also spoke about Cass Health offering free admission on the final days of the Sunnyside Pool being open. He said on their final day they had around 250 people that came through the doors. Rasmussen said he had many good conversations with people about things they enjoyed about the pool and things they would like to see.
Meanwhile, Rasmussen said the pool is now closed because they didn’t have the lifeguards to staff it. He said they need to look at ways to increase their number of lifeguards.
The lifeguards currently make around $8.20 per hour.
There is currently a MOU with the YMCA at a price of $14,000 per year for the Y to help manage and staff the pool. Some of the Board members suggested reexamining that memorandum.
