(Council Bluffs, IA) — A 325-million-dollar beef processing plant is being built near Council Bluffs.
Cattlemen’s Heritage says the plant will hire 750 people before operations begin in late 2023. The Mills County plant will process about 400-thousand head of cattle annually. The company expects to process cattle from Iowa, Nebraska, and South Dakota. It plans to focus on buying cattle from smaller, family-owned farms and ranches.
Iowa Agriculture Secretary has released a statement saying there is currently a significant opportunity to expand meat processing capacity in Iowa.
