(Griswold) School Administrators are faced with the difficult task of filling teaching positions.
Griswold Schools Superintendent Dave Henrichs says this isn’t just a one-year thing. He says finding teachers is going to be a challenge for years to come. The Board of Education Examiners who issue teacher licensures recently reported enrollment in educational college programs is down 40-percent.
Henrichs says pay is one of many factors steering young people away from entering the teaching profession. Dave Henrichs has been educating for almost 30-years; he says today there is more and more demand placed on teachers.
Henrichs is worried about the long-term effects this shortage could have on smaller school districts.
This week, the Griswold school district adjusted a board policy that now allows teachers to resign up to July 1 with no consequences.
