Darrell Begley, husband of LuAnn (Andersen) Begley, died Thursday May 5, 2021, at his home in rural Atlantic, Iowa.
Darrell was born May 10, 1948, in Atlantic to Helen (Reynolds) Begley and Howard (Roy) Begley. Darrell grew up in Atlantic and graduated from the Atlantic High School in 1966.
Darrell was drafted into the United States Army in March 1968 and served in Germany. He drove a fuel transport truck, was the compounds mail carrier, and projection operator. He was discharged in February 1970. He then joined the Iowa National Guard and served until July 1974. After the service Darrell returned home.
He was united in marriage to LuAnn Andersen on September 29, 1973, at Buck Creek United Methodist Church. To this union three children were born, Dawn, Chad and Sara. He farmed the home place, helped several area farmers as a hired hand, and became a swine facilities manager. Farrowing sows and raising baby pigs became his passion.
In 2000 he became an Iowa Master Pork Producer. He was an active member and officer of the Cass County Pork Producers. You could see him grilling at many Pork Producer activities. He was a 4-H leader and fair assistant superintendent. He loved mentoring his children and many others about the swine industry.
Darrell enjoyed supporting his children and grandchildren in all their activities. Fishing (especially for catfish) and hunting deer were always on his to do list.
Preceding Darrel in death is his daughter, Sara Begley Burney; parents, Howard (Roy) and Helen Begley; father-in-law, Bernard Andersen; and brother-in-law, Wayne Johnson.
Left with cherished memories is his wife, LuAnn Andersen Begley; daughter, Dawn (Donald) Dreager and their children, Dawson, Derek, Dustin and Dayna; son, Chad Begley and his children, Rylie, Briar and Noah; son-In-law, Michael Burney; sister, Nancy Johnson; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Dolly (Dave) Bergmann, Teddy (Barb) Andersen and Candis (Kevin) Nelson; numerous nieces and nephews; and mother-In-law, Joan Andersen.
Visitation with family present will take place from 4:00 – 6:00 p.m., Sunday, May 9, 2021, at Hockenberry Funeral Home in Atlantic, Iowa.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Monday May 10, 2021, at Hockenberry Family Care Funeral Home in Atlantic, Iowa. Burial of ashes will be in Southlawn Memory Gardens in Atlantic. A lunch will be served in Hockenberry’s community room after the committal service.
