(Griswold) Glenwood scored 135.50 points and won the team title in the boy’s division at the Trojan Relays at Griswold on Monday night. Atlantic finished second with 124, Lewis Central third with 111.50, and Clarinda, fourth, 101.50.
The Rams depth prevailed in the meet winning three events and scoring double-digit points in the 800, 3200, 110 Meter hurdles, 400-meter hurdles, and high jump.
Atlantic posted their strongest performance to date, winning seven events. Colin Mullenix (video interview posted below), and Craig Alan Becker each won three gold medals and one silver. Mullenix ran a personal best 15.54 in the 110 meter high hurdles, topped the field in the 400-meter lows, ran the 400-meter leg on the winning distance medley relay team, and anchored the second-place shuttle hurdle relay. Becker won the 800, 1600, anchored the distance medley, and earned a silver on the second-place 4×400, and Zane Berg won the 3200 meters for the Trojans, posting the team’s highest point total of the season.
“Our goal was to get over the 100-point mark, and we accomplished that tonight with 124,” said Atlantic Head Coach Abby Becker. “The team competed well and it was fun to watch the athletes support each other. Colin Mullenix was impressive in the hurdles, Zane Berg in the 3200, along with several personal bests tonight.”
St. Albert kicked off the meet with a win in the 800 Sprint Medley Relay in a time of 1:40.13, with the quad of Brendan Monahan, DJ. Weilage,Greg Fagan, and Sam Rallis. Atlantic’s Zane Berg won the 3,200 meters (10:52.72), Lewis Central followed with the win in the 4×800 (Ethen Fishell, Tyler Ruiz, Quentin Allen, and Nathan Sell), (8:46.85 ), and Glenwood topped the field in the Shuttle Hurdle Relay, (1:05.31), with (Zander Hayes, Anthony Driscoll-Lee, Grant Von Essen, Tyler Boldra.
Jonathan Humpal of Lewis Central edged Kelsey Fox of Council Bluffs, Abraham Lincoln, in the 100 Meters. Humpal ran 11.23, and Fox (11.25). Atlantic followed with the top finish in the Distance Medley Relay (3:45.60) with Gannon O’Hara, Zane Vance, Colin Mullenix, and Craig Alan Becker. Greg Fagan, of St. Albert, won the 400-meters (54.61), Glenwood won the 4×200 meter relay with (Brock Sell, Colby Frye, Cody Krause, and Tyler Huey), (1:34.81). The team race remained close with seven events remaining, with Glenwood, 78.50, Clarinda, 75.50, and Lewis Central, 71.50, with seven events remaining.
Kelsey Fox of Council Bluffs, Abraham Lincoln, won the 200 meters (22.87), Atlantic’s Colin Mullinex (57.46 ), and Zane Vance (59.04 ), went one-two in the 400-meter hurdles vaulting into second place in the team race with three events left, behind Glenwood, 121.50, Atlantic, 100, and Clarinda, 92.50. Craig Alan Becker’s win in the 1600 meters (4:34.01) and Zane Berg’s sixth-place finish closed the gap on Glenwood 122.50 to 113.0 with two events left to go.
Glenwood clinched the team title by winning the 4×100 meter relay with Chase Darden, Colby Frye, Brock Sell, and Tyler Huey (45.27 ). Lewis Central and Atlantic rounded out the meet with a first and second-place finish in the 4×400 meter relay. The Titans with Ethan Fishell, Jonathan Humpal, Lucci Fidone, and Nathan Sell (3:35.50). Atlantic running Becker, Colton Tasto, Colton Rasmussen, and Carter Pellett, (3:40.31).
Clarinda scored well in the field events. Michael Shull (21-06.50) and Tayden Brown (21-01.00) finished first and second in the long jump, and Issac Jones won the high jump (6-02.00). Logan Green tossed the shot put 53-03.00 for the win, and Tyler Laughlin, Shenandoah, heaved the discus (158-09) for first place.
