(Guthrie Center) ACGC has won back-to-back boys track meets to start the year with wins at Stanton and Panorama.
Guys like Trevin Suhr, Charlie Crawford, Austin Kunkle, and Clayton Wardyn have all had great starts to the season just to name a few. Here’s head coach Cody Matthewson, “We are obviously feeling pretty good about where we are at right now. The kids in my opinion, and myself as well, were just chomping at the bit at the opportunity to compete. We were set up to have a really good team last year and obviously those kids didn’t get a season. To see these guys develop over the last year and go compete, they’ve done such a tremendous job. I’m so dang proud of what they are doing right now. We have PR’s and records being set.”
The Chargers head to Van Meter on Thursday where the competition may jump up a notch. “We have to have a mindset that we just won a meet, but we have to go get better, work our tails off in the weight room, and go to practice. The competition is only going to get more stiff. Thursday we see ADM and Winterset and Van Meter so we can’t be satisfied with where we are at.”
ACGC has worked hard to establish a winning culture and mindset across the board and that confidence is starting to show. “We carry ourselves with a little bit of swagger and confidence. When that bus pulls up wherever we are going, I want other teams to have that thought of ‘Oh man, ACGC is here. I wish they weren’t here.’ That’s the mindset I want our kids to step off the bus with. With your heads and chest held high. You’re confident and here to compete and win.”
A lot of versatility and depth are featured on this team which has fueled their early success.
