(Atlantic) Atlantic senior Craig Alan Becker signed his Letter of Intent on Wednesday morning to run Track at the University of Northern Iowa.
Becker is a five time medalist at state track. He was on the winning 4X800 meter relay as a freshman. His sophomore season brought gold in the distance medley, 4th place in the 4X800, 6th in the open 800, and 7th in the 1600. He placed 7th as a senior at the state cross country meet.
He says of UNI, “I really liked the size and the setting of it. It’s big enough where I’ll have a lot of those Division I opportunities and I feel like it can really fit me both academically and athletically, but at the same time I know it’s going to be a very personal feel. It’s not going to be very big to the point where I’m just a number.”
Becker feels his past two years of cross country experience at the high school level will benefit him in his future goals. “I think it was really cool to be able to step outside my comfort zone. The three miles was not something I would really think of, so that was great. I think coach Dan Vargason can attest those first few days I was pretty gassed after jogging three miles, but having that aerobic training and distance training is really going to be valuable moving forward.”
