(Red Oak) Montgomery County Auditor Stephanie Burke, Treasurer, Tera Hughes, and Recorder Carleen Bruning per Iowa Code, met on Wednesday morning to decide how to fill the Supervisor District 1 vacancy.
Burke says a person interested in the appointment must submit a letter of interest, resume, and references, no later than October 13, 2020, at 4:30 p.m. References are optional. The applications must be sent to Carleen Bruning, Recorder, 105 E. Coolbaugh, PO Box 469, Red Oak, Iowa, 51566. They can be mailed, hand-delivered, or put in the drop box at the Courthouse. Residency in Supervisor District 1 is required for at least 60 days.
Interviews with all eligible candidates will be conducted by the committee on October 20, at 5:30 p.m. in the courtroom at the courthouse in Red Oak. The meeting is open to the public and also by zoom.
The appointment will be made by the committee on October 21 and will be valid until January 1, 2023.
The appointment process is subject to Montgomery County citizens who may request a special election to fill the vacancy by filing a petition with the Auditor’s Office containing 80 signatures of eligible voters within 14 days after the publication, or within 14 days after the appointment is made.
