(Exira) 4th District Congressional candidate J.D. Scholten made campaign stops in Exira and Audubon on Monday afternoon.
Scholten is running on the Democratic ticket against Republican Randy Feenstra for the Congressional seat which includes 39 counties in the northwest and north-central portion of Iowa. The district is marked as one of the biggest agricultural producing areas in the country.
Scholten blames it on policies coming out of Washington D. C.
One publication recently touted Scholten as the only federal candidate to talk about the abuse of the Packers and Stockyards Act of 1921. The democratic congressional candidate also speaks out against his own parties New Green Deal Proclamation, largely because farmers weren’t invited to the table.
Scholten believes in a two-step process to revitalize rural America. One-enforce the nation’s anti-trust laws, to help farmers stay on their land and make some money, and two- bring technology to the district on a far larger scale than what it is now. He is also campaigning on promises to place Iowans over political parties, show up, fix healthcare, fight for an economy that works for everyone, and secure the nation’s democracy from special interests.
J.D. Scholten was born in Ames and raised in Sioux City. He played baseball at Morningside College and the University of Nebraska and played professional baseball in seven different countries. He then worked as a paralegal, specializing in intellectual property and trial law, but found his true passion in helping others through pro-bono cases.
