(Atlantic) The Atlantic Parks and Recreation Department is still dealing with vandalism.
Atlantic Parks and Recreation Director Bryant Rasmussen told the Park Board Monday night that someone ripped the railing off of the end of the small dock at Schildberg Recreation Area. He said he’s not sure if the vandals took the railing or threw it into the water.
Rasmussen said on the opposite side of the vandalism, they did receive a nice letter and donation.
Rasmussen said they have the new soap dispensers ordered and the new seat ordered for the waterless restroom and he is getting quotes to get hand dryers to replace the paper towel holders. Rasmussen also noted that they do have two of their security cameras up and he is working to get the others up and running.
In other news, Rasmussen said they received several submissions for their Mascot Challenge. The mascots included an owl, a hawk, a finch, a muskrat and a Trojan horse. He said they are still working on how they will put the mascots out there so they can choose which one to use. These mascots will only be used for promotional things; it will not replace using the City of Atlantic logo.
Rasmussen also said all of the upgrades are done at Mollett Park, the trail is in, there is a dog weigh station, little library and benches. He said the washout at Bull Creek has been addressed; the culvert was pulled out and they reshaped the bank and seeded the top of the bank. And, Rasmussen thanked Park Foreman Kyle Welter and Mike Waters for giving a fresh coat of paint to the playgrounds and also thanked First Church of Christ for volunteering to paint the band shell at Sunnyside Park.
