(Atlantic) The Cass County Board of Supervisors approved the Iowa Secretary of State Vote Safe Iowa Initiative Grant Agreement at their meeting this morning. Cass County Auditor Dale Sunderman said this is a reimbursement grant in the amount of $18,400 for a couple of equipment purchases.
The Supervisors also held a lengthy discussion on a resolution to request reimbursement for eligible costs related to the COVID-19 public health emergency from the Iowa COVID-19 Government relief fund. The supervisors had discussed on what qualifies and what doesn’t and in the end they approved requesting reimbursement of up to $43,369.38 pending confirmation of the eligibility of these funds.
In other news, the Supervisors heard concerns from residents Dale Retallic, Daryl Karstens and Doug Shepperd who live near the new Schildberg Quarry south of Atlantic. The main concern was traffic safety issues with all of the gravel trucks on 620th Street, especially entering fall harvest season.
Other issues that were brought up during the long discussion were dust control and road maintenance. Board Chairman Steve Baier said he believes the safety issue does need immediate consideration and action. The Supervisors will be looking into lowering the speed limit and they will get that on the agenda as soon as possible.
